How to play winter bingo
Winter bingo is the safe, inclusive choice for a classroom party or an indoor-recess day. The list sticks to the season itself and avoids any one holiday: weather (blizzard, frost, sleet), clothes (mittens, earmuffs, a puffy coat), animals (polar bear, arctic fox, snowy owl, cardinal) and science words such as hibernate, migrate and winter solstice. Teachers can use it from the first cold snap in December through February, and the science words make it double as a review game for a weather or animal-adaptations unit.
- Pick a grid: 3×3 for pre-K, 4×4 for kindergarten and first grade, 5×5 from second grade up.
- Print 2 per page and use cotton balls or paper snowflakes as markers.
- Call words with the caller on the projector so students can match the spelling.
- The first full line wins, then play on for four corners or blackout.
Tips for a better game
- Add a science twist: when you call "Hibernate" or "Migrate", ask the class to name an animal that does it.
- For a snow day at home, swap in what kids can see out the window and play spot-it instead.
- Laminate a set and play with dry-erase markers all winter.
