How to play Diwali bingo
Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated over five days in October or November by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists. This bingo list covers the things families recognize: diyas and string lights, rangoli patterns in colored powder, marigold garlands, new clothes, a cleaned and decorated home, and sweets such as ladoo, barfi, jalebi and gulab jamun. It also names the five-day arc, from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, plus Lakshmi Puja and the Sikh celebration of Bandi Chhor Divas. It works as a family game at a gathering or as a gentle introduction to the festival in a classroom.
- Print the cards and hand them out with small sweets or colored paper circles as markers.
- Call words with the on-screen caller. For a classroom, pause on a new word and ask a student who celebrates if they would like to explain it.
- The first full line wins. Play a second round for blackout while the sweets last.
Tips for a better game
- Families celebrate differently by region and tradition. Edit the word box to match yours, such as adding a regional sweet or a local custom.
- For young children, choose 3×3 cards and keep the picture-friendly words: diya, rangoli, fireworks, lantern, sweets.
- Pair the game with a rangoli drawing activity. The finished cards look great next to them.
