How to play gratitude bingo
Gratitude bingo is a November classroom and family activity where each square is a prompt, not an answer: "A friend", "Something in nature", "A helper in your town", "A mistake you learned from". When a prompt is called, any player who has it shares one thing they are thankful for in that category, then marks the square. It turns a vague "what are you thankful for?" into dozens of small, specific answers, and quieter kids get a structure to speak within. Counselors also use it for social-emotional learning lessons and morning meetings.
- Print a card for each child. 5×5 with a free space works from about second grade; use 3×3 or 4×4 for younger kids.
- Call a prompt with the caller. Players who have it share a quick answer out loud, or write or draw it in the square.
- The first full line wins, and the winner reads their answers back to the group.
Tips for a better game
- Self-paced version: no caller. Kids fill in every square with a word or drawing over a week, then share their favorite.
- Keep sharing optional. A child can pass and still mark the square, so nobody feels put on the spot.
- Tie it to Thanksgiving week, or run it again in January as a fresh-start activity.
