How to play ESL vocabulary bingo
Vocabulary bingo for English learners works best when students have to understand something, not just match spellings. This preset uses clue-and-answer pairs. The caller reads a simple definition such as "You cut paper with them", and students find "scissors" on their card. The 32 everyday words cover home, school and town, which suits beginner and lower-intermediate classes of any age.
- Pre-teach or review the words first. Bingo is practice, not first exposure.
- Read each clue from the caller twice, slowly. The answer shows small on screen for you only.
- Students cover the word. The winner reads each covered word and says the clue in their own words.
Tips for a better game
- Write your own pairs as "clue = answer", one per line. Translations work too: "perro = dog".
- Let a strong student be the caller in the second round. Reading clues aloud is speaking practice.
- Use 4Γ4 cards for beginners. They are less crowded and the words print larger.
