How to play senior holiday bingo
Bingo is already the favorite activity in many senior centers, assisted-living communities and memory-care programs, and this holiday version adds a little December warmth. The words are short and nostalgic, so they are easy to read in large print and easy to talk about: popcorn garland, holiday cards in the mail, carols on the radio, a cookie tin, a toy train. The list mixes winter and holiday traditions (a menorah, a kinara, an evergreen tree), so a whole room can enjoy it together. Activity directors can print a fresh set for every session.
- Choose 1 card per page for the largest print and the easiest squares to read.
- Use the on-screen caller and read each word slowly, twice, with a short pause.
- Invite a short story with some calls ("Who remembers stringing popcorn?"). The memories are often the best part.
- Check winners by card number in the caller, so nobody has to read back small squares.
Tips for a better game
- Use thick markers or large chips. Card stock is easier to handle than plain paper.
- Memory-care groups often enjoy 3×3 or 4×4 cards: fewer squares, same fun.
- Pair it with Christmas song bingo for a sing-along session, using classic carols everyone knows.
