How to play sight words bingo
Sight word bingo is reading practice that kids beg to repeat. Each student scans their card for the word you call, which is exactly the quick recognition skill sight words are meant to build. The preset uses the 40 Dolch pre-primer words (a, and, away, big, blue...), which are in the public domain. The defaults are 4×4 cards with no free space, so every square is real practice.
- Print 2 per page. Laminate a set and use dry-erase markers to play all year.
- Call each word aloud with the caller, and use it in a short sentence: "Look. Look at the dog."
- Students cover the word. Ask the winner to read their line back to you, which counts as reading practice too.
Tips for a better game
- Move up a list each month: replace the words with the primer or first-grade list in the word box.
- Struggling readers do better with 3×3 cards: fewer words to scan, same practice.
- Show the caller on the board after calling, so kids can match letter by letter if they need to.
