How to play Christmas movie bingo
Christmas movie bingo is played during a holiday TV movie, the cozy kind where a big-city professional goes back to a small hometown and falls for someone who runs the tree farm. The squares are the tropes those films lean on: the almost-kiss interrupted, the cookie bake-off, the mysterious old man who might be Santa, the town festival that has to be saved by Christmas Eve. Each card is different, so a movie night with a group becomes a race. The list uses tropes, not titles or network names, so it works for any film you put on.
- Print one card per viewer, 2 or 4 per page, and pass out pens or popcorn as markers.
- Mark a square when the moment happens on screen. Rewinding to argue a call is allowed and encouraged.
- The first line wins the next movie pick. Keep cards going across a double feature for a blackout.
Tips for a better game
- Running a marathon? Generate a fresh batch for each film so nobody carries a nearly full card over.
- Add tropes from your favorite movies in the word box: the hometown name, the dog, the rival bakery.
- For a family movie night, swap romance tropes for "Snowball fight", "Lost mitten" and "Sledding crash".
